Tracking hasn’t updated in days

A quiet tracking page is usually not a lost parcel. India Post scans an article at selected points, not continuously, so gaps of several days are routine — especially between sorting hubs in different states.

Why gaps happen

Scans are recorded at handover points: the booking office, sorting hubs, the delivery office and the delivery itself. An article can travel long distances between two scans, so no update does not mean no movement.

Surface transport between distant regions is slower than air, and weekends or local holidays can add delay with no status change.

When to act

Act when the status itself is wrong, not merely old — for example it shows “Delivered” but nothing arrived, “Returned to sender” when you never refused it, or it stays stuck at one hub well beyond the expected delivery window for that service.

Take the consignment number and the last known status to the office that booked it, or file a complaint on India Post’s customer portal. Keep the booking receipt — it carries the article details they ask for.
